A man who allegedly drowned his 8-year-old son in Wainganga river in Balaghat in Madhya Pradesh on Friday has told police he was jobless thanks to the coronavirus-induced lockdown and didn't have money to feed his family, a politician said.
A Kotwali police headquarters official identified the 37-year-old accused as Sunil Jaiswal, a resident of Saraswati Nagar area here.
"After tying his son's hands and drowning him, Jaiswal visited his family, confessed to the crime then came to surrender. We found the body of the boy a while later," said Kotwali police headquarters responsible Vijay Singh Paraste.
"In his statement, Jaiswal has said he was rendered jobless thanks to the lockdown, was unable to feed his family, and, therefore, killed his son. He has said he wanted to finish the family by killing the son," Paraste informed.
Police acknowledged the birthday of the 10-year-old daughter of the accused was on Friday and he had gone together with his son to shop for cake.
"Jaiswal has been charged with murder and further probe was underway," Paraste added.
